If no one is coming to read your posts, the site is pretty much dead in the water. However, there are many techniques you can use to drive traffic to your blog – 10 of which we will discuss below.
1. Promote in Facebook groups.
Drive traffic to your blog by promoting your links in share groups on Facebook. Don’t stop with those, however.
Find groups that are dedicated to your niche. Become active in these groups and share your posts every now and then. Be helpful without being spammy, and give way more than you take from your niche groups.
2. Schedule social media shares.
Getting more pageviews is easier if you are consistent with your sharing. Use a tool like CoSchedule or Buffer for Facebook and Twitter. You can also schedule your Pinterest activity using BoardBooster or Tailwind. These tools will publish updates for you, so you can focus on other blogging tasks.
3. Build a community around your blog.
You need loyal followers who will share your content for you! This will get your more traffic without doing much extra work. Make sure you are engaging with commenters on your blog as well as social media. Post updates that are share-worthy, complete with great images.
4. Build an email list.
If you can put your links right inside your readers’ inboxes, you can greatly increase your traffic. Don’t count on everyone seeing your new posts when you share them on social media.
Facebook has gotten very stingy with their algorithms, and Pinterest’s feed doesn’t show everything anymore either. You need to have a mailing list so you can inform your loyal fans of your new posts and drive more traffic to them.
5. Answer questions on Quora.
This is a popular question and answer website, similar to Yahoo! Answers. If you answer other users’ questions thoroughly, it can drive more people to click through your profile and visit your blog.
You can sometimes share a link to a related blog post that will help the person asking the question. Make sure you are using this technique sparingly so you aren’t seen as a spammy user.
6. Update your older post images.
Perhaps posts from 2 or more years ago are using hard to read fonts, bad color combinations, or aren’t shaped right for Pinterest and other social media. A simple refresh of the content you already have can make a world of difference in your traffic!
Each blog post needs two images: one rectangular image for Facebook and Twitter, and a second vertical image for Pinterest. Make sure the font and colors align with your brand and are easy to read on the image.
7. Guest post for other bloggers.
Find 3-4 popular blogs in your niche and start commenting on their posts. Engage with them on social media as well. After a week or so of doing this, reach out to them via email and ask if they accept guest posts.
You can also find blogs that accept guest posts by searching Google for “your niche + guest posts” or “your niche + writers wanted.”
Make sure your guest post is top quality and includes at least one link back to your blog. This will help you tap into the blog’s traffic to get some new exposure for your own.
8. Leave comments on other blogs in your niche.
Find bloggers similar to your topics and voice, and leave comments on their posts regularly. Make sure the comment has substance. Ask a question or add your own tips or experiences with the topic at hand.
Also, when you comment, add your blog name to the “name” field. For example, if your blog name is “Top Coupons,” your name field should be like this: Jane | TopCoupons
This draws attention to your comment and helps with click-throughs, especially if what you had to say was insightful.
9. Write fewer posts.
This may seem counter-intuitive, but having less content on your blog can mean more traffic for you. Why is that?
Because you have more time to promote each post. You can make sure it gets the attention it deserves before moving onto the next. And your loyal readers have more time to come by and read your most recent post.
If you are posting every single day, your fans may feel overwhelmed by everything you have to offer and stop reading. Even if they stick around, it will be difficult for them to read everything if you are pumping out big posts every day.

To get more traffic from the search engines, you must tell them what each post is about. Google and the other engines have bots that come to your site regularly to analyze your content. If you have good SEO on your posts, the bots will know what keywords you content target.
